FASHION TENDENCY HAS BEEN TURNED GREEN

Aware of the environmental impact of industrial processes and products, more and more companies belonging to the textile and fashion industry have started to embrace and promote sustainable development. A path that has been undertaken to safeguard the environment and produce well-being and social equity by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and making increasingly conscious, socially inclusive use of natural resources.

Sustainable fashion is not just a fleeting trend. Vogue and the New York Times devoted extensive articles to green fashion as early as 1990, and many companies started putting words into practice in the years that followed. Designers have also been experimenting with environmentally friendly fabrics and creatively recycling materials for some time now, bringing environmental issues to the attention of the fashion industry and raising consumer awareness.
In addition to supplying vintage material and recycling raw materials, fashion brands are now taking further steps to continue to honor a path undertaken years ago.
It is indeed a radical and profound change that affects the entire production chain and embraces the company’s vision and business organization. All the procedures, tools and materials used must have a low environmental impact.
The alternative and sustainable supply involves several aspects and is characterized by three key levers:
·       Raw materials of traceable origins, selected from natural, organic, ecological and innovative textiles and yarns. Fabrics derived from organic yarns and free from harmful chemicals and pollutants are particularly appreciated.
·       Supply Chain control based on minimal environmental impact, from the selection of raw materials to the production and distribution of the finished products. Intelligent machine functions and technological and IT progress have led to a paradigm shift.
·       Digital, high-performance systems and tools to promote and communicate green fashion.
A combination of factors, processes and values that speak loudly to contemporary consumers.
This new, green approach is not limited to clothes but involves every area of the apparel industry, from footwear to small leather goods. Even jewelry can be regenerated and ethical. Sustainable trainers and jeans remain the products with the highest research volumes and year-on-year growth rates. The packaging industry is getting more and more sustainable as well, paying particular attention to the conscious and sustainable management of resources: eco-friendly accessories and packaging, derived from biodegradable materials and with alternative, plastic-free sealing methods composed of recycled or FSC® certified paper. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization that regulates the wood/paper production chain by promoting responsible, environmentally appropriate and socially beneficial management of the world’s forests.
Research conducted by PwC Italia estimates that the global green fashion market will reach $8.25 billion in 2023, with an increase of 6.8% compared to 2019. According to further statistics, the green fashion market is expected to grow to a value of almost 15.2 billion in 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.1%. A growth that is mainly due to the increased awareness of ethical fashion on a global level and that also affects the presentation of the collections, sales and awareness campaigns, and media and advertising activities.
The ‘explosion’ of this circular economy is supported by government initiatives and shaped by the impact of new technologies. The latter are in fact able to trigger changes for a more sustainable future, from the search for new materials to innovative solutions in production, services, and communication.
