Harvesting:
Modal fabric is derived from beech tree pulp, usually harvested from sustainable forests. The wood is chipped into small pieces or turned into a pulp.
Extrusion:
The wood pulp undergoes a chemical process using a solvent spinning technique called the “Lyocell process” or the “viscose process.” In this method, the pulp is dissolved in a solution to create a viscous liquid.
Spinneret:
The viscous liquid is then extruded through spinnerets (tiny holes) to form filaments. These filaments are then solidified in a chemical bath to create fibers.
Washing and Bleaching:
The fibers are washed to remove any remaining chemicals and impurities. Bleaching might be done to achieve the desired whiteness.
Spinning into Yarn:
The fibers are spun into yarns that can be used for weaving or knitting.
Finishing:
The fabric might undergo additional treatments or finishes to enhance its properties, such as softening agents for added smoothness, dyes for color, or treatments for wrinkle resistance.
Quality Control:
Throughout the process, quality control measures are taken to ensure that the fabric meets specific standards for strength, colorfastness and other desired characteristics.
